This article provides an overview of the educational, licensure, and supervisory frameworks shaping professional social work practice in the United States. It outlines the steps required to become a social worker, emphasizing the significance of completing a degree at a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program and fulfilling state-specific licensure mandates. The article then examines best practice standards in supervision, including legal, ethical, and technological considerations, as well as the importance of cultural competence and professional development. In addition, it highlights the roles of key organizations, such as CSWE, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), in ensuring high-quality, accountable, and ethically guided practice.
